APPLICATION of Schneider P441 Relay

Schneider P441 Relay, P442, and P444 are designed and developed by Schneider according to user requirements for complete distance protection of different applications of the power system such as lines, tapped lines, and lines with multiple zero-sequence sources, cables, non-homogeneous lines, parallel lines, and series compensated lines. The device provides complete independent settable resistive reach per zone allowing an effortless application to short lines and cable protection. The Function of Schneider P441 Relay

  • Power swing blocking to prevent any unwanted operation during power swings.
  • ((SOTF/TOR)The Switch-On-To-Fault and Trip On Reclose protection) offer fast fault clearance following both manual and auto-reclosing of circuit breakers.
  • ((VTS/CVTS) VT/CVT Supervision) helps in Supervising and detecting loss of one-phase, two-phase & three-phase of the VT signal, it also offers indication and inhibition of voltage-dependent protection elements.
  • (Circuit supervision) Continuous supervision of the trip circuit with Thermal Overload.
  • ((Cts) Current transformer supervision)to detect loss of phase CT signals and inhibit the operation of current dependent protection elements.
  • ((LBB) Circuit breaker failure protection) Circuit breaker failure protection can be used for back tripping upstream circuit breakers, and /or for re-tripping through a second breaker trip coil when a local breaker failure is detected. 
  • (fault location) the algorithm, immune to fault resistance and load current, delivers distance to fault in miles, ohms, and percentage of line. A mutual compensation feature is equipped to eliminate the effect of zero sequence mutual coupling from the parallel lines

The hardware of Schneider P441 Relay

  • A back-lit liquid crystal display (3 lines), 12 LEDs (8 programmable) An optional IRIG-B port (not P441), RS232 port & an RS485 port, RS232, RS485, and K-Bus port
  • A download/monitor port,  battery (supervised) with N/O & N/C watchdog contacts, and Supervised +48V field voltage
  • 1A/5A dual rated CTs, IEC 61850-9.2, IEC 61850-8-1: Px4x devices can be enhanced with an optional redundant Ethernet board. 
  • Self Healing Protocol and Dual Homing Protocol 
  • (Rapid Spanning Tree) RSTP protocol is also provided. 
  • The redundant Ethernet board has modulated, demodulated IRIG-B with the SNTP protocol for time synchronization. 
  • A watchdog relay contact in redundant Ethernet board to set alarms in case of a failure.
  • The Opto-inputs, relay outputs, and 8 of the LEDs can be changed by the user. 
  • The universal voltage range from 24 to 250V dc is independent and can be powered from the 48V field voltage available from the device. 
  • The relay output is latching or self-reset
