RET650
Description
RET650 – Transformer protection
For reliable protection and control of all types of power transformers and reactors
The RET650 offers an optimal, off-the-shelf solution for the protection of two- and three-winding transformers. The type-tested variant of RET650 Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) comes pre-equipped and configured with complete functionality and default parameters, ensuring easy handling from ordering to reliable operation through engineering and commissioning.
The 650 series IEDs boast several advantageous features, including a significantly reduced number of parameter settings and enhanced IED HMI functionality. This includes 15 dynamic three-color indication LEDs per page, across up to three pages, and configurable push-button shortcuts for various actions.
In the 650 series IEDs, the most basic parameters are pre-set before delivery from the factory, requiring you only to set the parameters specific to your application. This enables quick operational readiness of your IEDs. Additionally, the application manual includes setting examples to support your protection engineers.
Relion – Complete confidence
The RET650 IEDs for transformer protection are part of the Relion protection and control product family. The Relion product family offers a comprehensive range of products for the protection, control, measurement, and supervision of power systems. Designed to implement the core values of the IEC 61850 standard, Relion products ensure interoperable and future-proof solutions. Backed by Hitachi Energy’s cutting-edge technology, global application knowledge, and experienced support network, you can be assured that your system will perform reliably in any situation.
Unrivaled sensitivity and speed
The RET650 provides exceptional coverage for power transformer winding turn-to-turn faults, with a unique negative sequence internal/external fault discriminator that is faster than conventional stabilized transformer differential protection functions. It enables highly sensitive protection to detect evolving internal faults, allowing the system to trip before a more severe fault occurs, potentially causing serious damage. The RET650 places low requirements on the primary CTs, eliminating the need for interposing CTs.
The low impedance restricted earth-fault function for all directly or low impedance earthed windings offers excellent stability for external faults. Individual protection for each winding without the need for harmonic stabilization ensures high sensitivity and fast tripping. Additionally, the directional zero-sequence current criterion enhances security.
Overcurrent functions provide essential backup protection, while the thermal overload function prevents transformer damage caused by overload. Breaker failure protection allows high-speed backup tripping of surrounding breakers and re-tripping of the own breaker.
The RET650 presents a future-proof concept based on application flexibility, making it an excellent choice for both new and retrofit installations. The integration of main protection and a range of backup protection functions within the IED improves power system performance, reduces hardware engineering and installation time, and minimizes space and spare parts requirements.
