The RED650 Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) is engineered for the protection and monitoring of overhead lines and cables. Additionally, it manages transformer feeders, generators, and transformer blocks. It offers differential and impedance protection with an overcurrent backup feature.<\/p>\n

Pre-configured and type-tested, RED650 IEDs come with default parameters, facilitating quick and efficient commissioning. These IEDs are fully configured with functionalities suited for single breaker applications, supporting both single and three-phase tripping. The RED650 boasts phase-segregated current differential protection with high sensitivity for high-resistive faults and secure phase selection for up to three line terminals. It also includes two- or three-winding power transformers in the protected zone.<\/p>\n

The impedance protection function supports both quadrilateral and mho impedance characteristics, selectable on a per-zone basis, enabling coordination with existing impedance protection schemes in any power network.<\/p>\n

Enhanced with load encroachment adaptation, the impedance protection reduces the risk of mal-operation due to high load, particularly in sub-transmission networks where high line load must be accommodated while detecting and clearing high resistive faults. Unique load current compensation in the first zone prevents unwanted trips during resistive faults and high power transfer on the line.<\/p>\n

Overcurrent functions provide essential backup protection, while breaker failure protection ensures high-speed backup tripping of surrounding breakers and re-tripping of its own breaker.<\/p>\n

The 650 series IEDs feature numerous valuable attributes, such as significantly reduced parameter settings and enhanced IED Human-Machine Interface (HMI) functionality. This includes 15 dynamic three-color indication LEDs per page, across up to three pages, and configurable push-button shortcuts for various actions.<\/p>\n

For the 650 series IEDs, basic parameters are preset at the factory, requiring only application-specific settings. This enables rapid operational deployment. The application manual includes setting examples to assist protection engineers.<\/p>\n
